New to Soap Making? Start with the Right Soap Base
Have you seen a beautifully decorated soap shop and wondered whether or not you could make homemade soap? Most people believe that in order to make their own soap, they need to use dangerous chemicals, wear goggles, and have a chemist’s degree; however, I can help you skip the hard part and get straight to the fun part!
In order to create beautiful bars of soap that don’t harm your skin, you will want to start with the right soap base. At Luxurist, we believe everybody has a creative side and with the right tools, anybody can create their own bars of soap!
What Exactly is a Soap Base?
Think about a Soap Base as a cake that is already baked. If you decide to make a cake totally from scratch, you will need flour eggs sugar, etc. However, if you buy a pre-baked sponge, you will be able to concentrate on the most enjoyable part:
• The frosting,
• The flavors, and
• The decorations.
A Soap Base is soap that has already been through the chemical process (called saponification). It comes in a solid block. The only thing you need to do is to melt it, add the scents or colors you like, and let it get hard again. It is safe, simple, and quick.
Why Beginners Love the "Melt and Pour" Method
Starting with a quality Soap Base means you can skip the hard questions. It’s an excellent way to go:
• No lye required: If you’re unfamiliar with soap-making, you’re less likely to use lye. And if you are, you’re more likely to use it safely.
• Almost immediate result: Once the base cools and hardens you’re ready to use it, as this often takes only an hour or two.
• Creative potential: You’re starting with the base so you have more freedom to add in dried flowers, essential oils, coffee grounds, etc.
Choosing the Right Base for Your Skin
All Soap Bases are not created equal. It all depends on your skin’s preference for which Soap Base from the Luxurist soap making range is best for you. Some of the most popular Soap Bases are the following:
- Goat Milk Soap Base
This one is a big hit. It's soft, luscious, and super hydrating. For dry or sensitive skin, goat milk is like giving your pores a warm embrace. It makes a beautiful, rich foam that really feels luxurious.
2. Glycerin (Clear) Soap Base
For anyone looking to create awesome transparent soaps containing flowers, toys or anything else, this medium is your answer! It works great for moisturizing and drawing moisture into the skin as well as taking colors very well and giving them a vibrant appearance!
3. Shea Butter Soap Base
Want something that feels extra silky? Shea butter is famous for its healing properties. It’s perfect for the winter months when the air is dry and your skin needs a little extra protection.
4. Simple Steps to Your First Bar
Are you up for trying it out? Below are the fundamental instructions that will lead you to be successful:
• Cutting: Use your Soap Base to create regular cubes of soap, making them small enough so they'll melt quickly as well as evenly.
• Melting: Place your cubes in a safe container suitable for use in the microwave oven, then microwave in thirty second intervals stirring until they turn into a liquid form.
• Creating: This is where you'll be creating your custom soap! You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for scent along with some food coloring that you prefer.
• Pouring: Once you have made your soap then you can pour it out onto a non-stick surface & allow your soap to set until it cools down & has completely solidified.
That's all there is to it! You now have created your new custom soap!
Why Quality Matters
While some may be inclined to purchase inexpensive products for their skin, your skin will notice the difference. We at Luxurist have created a superior soap base that will create a bar of soap that not only looks great but will also feel great on your skin. Soap bases that are made with inferior materials typically leave your skin feeling dry and or plastic-like. Our soap bases are gentle, bubbly, and moisturizing!
